Here are some common queries many of our customers in Manhattan and Westchester have had before embarking on their Kybella® treatments. If you have others, feel free to call our offices and we’ll be happy to address them for you.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is a non-human, non-animal derived version of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring material found in all of our bodies that helps breakdown fat and absorb it.
What is Kybella used for?
Kybella is used in the submental area, also known as the “double chin”, to dissolve fat away and improve the overall contour of the neck and jawline. Other areas of treatment include small pockets of fat in the armpit and knee regions.
Is Kybella long lasting or is it temporary like toxins and dermal fillers?
Unlike Botox or dermal fillers, Kybella is a long lasting, permanent, fat-dissolving solution for those with small pockets of stubborn fat in its indicated areas.
What is the downtime after the injection?
Most individuals have slight discomfort similar to other injectables for a brief period of time after the injection. This resolves relatively quickly. Patients can expect different degrees of swelling and tenderness, but it is a normal part of the healing process.
How long does it take to see results?
Results depend on the amount of excess fat you have under your chin. The first few days are hallmarked by swelling and possible bruising. Most patients begin seeing positive results within 4-6 weeks after the treatment.
How many treatments do I need?
Patients receive multiple Kybella injections in a single treatment, as the solution is injected and spread out throughout the area of concern. Most patients require multiple sessions about one month apart to see their optimal results; treatment plans can be discussed during your consultation.
Can anyone have Kybella?
Patients with consolidated fat deposits and fullness underneath the chin are great candidates for having Kybella. Patients who have a lot of loose and hanging skin (known as “turkey neck”) are not good candidates for this procedure, because Kybella is not intended to remove or tighten skin. If you suffer from bleeding problems or already have difficulty swallowing, you may not be a good candidate.
In order to determine if Kybella is right for you, we recommend booking a free consultation which takes anywhere from 15-20 minutes.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effects of Kybella include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, tenderness and areas of hardness in the treatment area. These side effects are also the most common side effects seen with toxin injections or dermal fillers.
How much does a Kybella treatment cost?
With all injectable treatments, each client must be evaluated to determine their customized treatment plan. Kybella treatments require anywhere from 1-3 sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Treatments start at $600 and can go up from there, depending on the amount of fat in the area of concern. Youtherapy is pleased to offer multi-syringe discounts.
