DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser FAQs

DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser Frequently Asked Questions

What is the DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser?

The SmartXide Tetra CO2 by DEKA is a device that can deliver the DEKA pulse for a deeper more ablative laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. This laser treatment offers a deeper ablation and skin resurfacing more suitable for deeper wrinkles and pigmentation. The down time associated with this procedure is a few days of redness similar to a bad sunburn. The end goal is the same to produce new collagen and diminish fine lines and wrinkles as well as smooth out pigmentation.

Are laser treatments like the DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 safe?

Yes, the DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 laser is safe when performed by a qualified and experienced professional. The DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser is designed with advanced technology that allows for precise control of laser energy, ensuring effective treatment while minimizing risks. At Youtherapy Medspa, we pride ourselves on providing safe, effective laser skin resurfacing for our clients for more than 15 years. Dr. William Greenberg, with over 25 years of experience, is the only provider who performs the DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser Treatment.

How does the DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser work?

Fractional laser resurfacing devices are named as such because they only treat a fraction of the skin’s surface area. Tetra treatment emits ultra-fast pulses of light into pinpoint spots on the skin, where energy creates tiny channels in the uppermost layers of tissue. Where energy comes into contact with the epidermis, tissue is immediately vaporized. The thermal laser energy also permeates into the dermis, where rejuvenating fibroblast cells and existing collagen are heated. This heating results in prompt tightening of the collagen matrix and the ongoing production of healthy new collagen.

How many DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser treatments will I need?

One of the aspects of the Tetra laser that patients appreciate is that results can be achieved with just one treatment. This is true even for those who have more advanced sun damage and tissue aging to correct. Some patients will opt for two or more treatments based on the end goal we would like to achieve.

How much downtime is needed after a DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser treatment?

After your DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser session, you will need to take some time to recover. How long it takes for you to recover depends on your current health. On average, it can take at least 7 to 10 days to make a full recovery. During your recovery period, you can expect to see redness, shedding skin, and swelling. These symptoms are normal to experience, but if they do not lessen over time, contact your nearest Youtherapy location immediately. Other things you may expect after a SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser treatment are:

  • Your skin may feel warm, tight and/or ‘pulled’ for a few days following treatment.
  • Your skin may have some residual redness for 24-48 hours after.
  • Two days after your Tetra CO2 Laser treatment, you may experience a light flaking that will last no longer than a few days to a week.
  • Avoid picking, pulling or removing any loose or exfoliating skin, no matter the temptation. This could result in permanent scarring and hyperpigmentation.
  • Avoid wearing any makeup the day of the treatment and at least 24 hours after.
  • Avoid any direct sun exposure. After 72 hours, a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or above should be used whenever there is sun exposure. This precaution should be continued throughout the treatment duration.
  • Discontinue the following products until your skin has completely healed: Tretinoin, retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA), beta-hydroxy acids (BHA), bleaching creams and exfoliating cleansing devices.
  • Strenuous exercise that causes excessive sweating is not recommended 24 to 72 hours after a Tetra CO2 Laser treatment.

When will I see results from a DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser treatment?

A few weeks after your DEKA SmartXide Tetra CO2 Laser treatment, you will notice results. Your old outer layer of skin will begin to slough off and take some of your sun damage, age spots, and winkles with it. During this time, collagen production will be in high gear, and you will see continual improvement during the weeks following treatment. Your skin will look like it has a sunburn for a day or two. It’s nothing that would keep you out of the public eye, and you can wear makeup and continue with your normal skincare routine. During the next couple of weeks, as your skin heals, it may be dry or scaly, so you will want to keep it extra hydrated.
